InTheTab Image stays on your device

Remove image background without uploading

An AI model finds the subject and makes everything else transparent. It runs in this tab, so your photo is never uploaded. The first use downloads the open-source BiRefNet lite model (~100 MB, licence) from Hugging Face; later uses load it from your browser’s cache.

How to remove a background

  1. Choose your image. Click the box above and pick a photo. JPG, PNG, WebP and iPhone HEIC all work. It opens in this tab; it isn’t sent anywhere.
  2. Remove the background. The first time, the AI model downloads once (about 100 MB). After that it starts straight from your browser’s cache.
  3. Download the PNG. The subject is kept and the background becomes transparent. Save it and drop it onto any colour or design.

Good to know

  • Transparent PNG, full size. The result has the same width and height as your original, with a transparent background.
  • Works best with a clear subject. People, products, pets and objects that stand out from the background give the cleanest edges. Fine hair and see-through items can be less precise.
  • GPU or CPU. If your browser supports WebGPU, the tool uses your graphics card and a 1024 px model. Otherwise it falls back to a 512 px model on the CPU, which is slower and a little less detailed.
  • One-time download. On a slow connection the first run takes a while. Keep the tab open; the progress bar shows how far the model has got.

Your photo stays on your device

Most background removers upload your photo to their servers and run the AI there. Here, the AI runs inside this browser tab. Your image is read, processed and saved on your own device and is never uploaded.

This is the one InTheTab tool that downloads something: on first use your browser fetches the open-source BiRefNet lite model from Hugging Face and the ONNX runtime from jsDelivr. Those are downloads to you, not uploads of your photo. You can check: open your browser’s developer tools, watch the Network tab, and remove a background. How InTheTab works

Questions

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. The AI model runs in your browser, so the image never leaves your device. The only network traffic is the one-time download of the model and its runtime. We never get your files or text: the site has no accounts, and its only analytics, Google Analytics, counts visits without ever seeing what you add here.

Why does the first use take longer?

Your browser has to download the AI model, which is about 100 MB, plus the ONNX runtime that runs it. After that both load from your browser’s cache, so later uses start much faster.

How do I get a transparent background?

That’s what this tool makes. The result is a PNG where everything except the subject is transparent, ready for slides, product listings, stickers or profile pictures.

Do I need to install anything or sign up?

No. It runs in a modern browser on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android or iPhone. It’s free, there’s no sign-up and no watermark is added.
