InTheTab PDF stays on your device

Remove a password from a PDF without uploading

Enter the password you use to open the PDF. You get a copy that opens without one.

    How to unlock a PDF

    1. Choose your PDF. Click the box above and pick the password-protected file. It opens in this tab; nothing is sent anywhere.
    2. Enter its password. This is the same password you type to open the PDF.
    3. Unlock and download. Save the new copy. It opens without asking for a password.

    Good to know

    • You need the password. This tool removes a password you already know. It can’t guess or crack one.
    • Wrong password? The tool says so and nothing is saved. Check for caps lock and try again.
    • Your pages stay as they are. Nothing is redrawn or turned into images, so text stays selectable and searchable.
    • Handy for statements and payslips. Banks and payroll systems often lock PDFs. An unlocked copy is easier to merge, compress or upload where you need it.

Your PDF stays on your device

Most online PDF password removers upload your file, and its password, to their servers. Here, the PDF is decrypted inside this browser tab by qpdf, an open-source PDF tool compiled to WebAssembly. That matters for bank statements, payslips, tax forms and ID scans.

The page’s security policy tells your browser to block uploads, so the document can’t leave your device even by accident. You can check: open your browser’s developer tools, watch the Network tab, and unlock a file. How InTheTab works

    Questions

Can it unlock a PDF if I’ve forgotten the password?

No. You must know the password. This tool doesn’t crack, guess or bypass passwords; it uses the one you enter to open the file and saves a copy without it. If you’ve lost the password, ask whoever sent you the PDF for a new copy.

    Is my password sent anywhere?

No. The password and the PDF stay in this tab. We never get your files or text: the site has no accounts, and its only analytics, Google Analytics, counts visits without ever seeing what you add here.

    Does the original file change?

No. Your original stays locked. You download a separate unlocked copy, with “-unlocked” added to its name.

Do I need to install anything or sign up?

No. It runs in any modern browser on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android or iPhone. It’s free, there’s no sign-up and no watermark is added.
